Grandpa Jack's Sponge Candy packaging and point-of-purchase display was created for and inspired by my very own "Grandpa Jack", who is pictured on the side of the box. The Art of a Souvenir is a result of a semester long senior capstone project. I conducted in-depth research and wrote a paper of my findings. I designed, printed, and published this book at the end of the semester.
This book investigates the origins and the material goods and souvenirs of the tourism industry and the impact that they have on local economies and cultures. As it turns out, the commodification and mass production of these once culturally sacred items may be doing more harm than good to local cultures and economies.

Inspired by my capstone research project, Art of a Souvenir, I created a public art exhibit in which visitors could anonymously write and pin their travel firsts, favorites, memories, and experiences to a map. I have compiled the responses to share them digitally.
You can add your own memories by clicking the "+" sign in the upper right hand side of the map.
